Giving plants a home.

Hello! If you follow me on instagram you probably saw a few shots from last Saturday when I went over to my friend Megan's house and we put together some terrariums! Who DOESN'T want a tiny contained ecosystem on their windowsill?

We met up in Harvard Square so we could buy me a jar and get breakfast - of course. Then we took the bus to Pemberton Farms which is so lovely and smells so good. Our shopping tray was soon full of little plantlets... Trifolium "Dark Dancer", Artillery Fern, Oplismenus "Basket Grass", Stonecrop "Coral Carpet", Asparagus Fern, Peperomia, Coteus "Chaotic Rose", and, the most adorably named Othonna capensis "Little Pickles"!

I've spent a lot of time with plants but we made some pretty uneducated guesses on these. We looked for plants that liked higher humidity and damp conditions. (A couple of them were more like succulents that we would put into open containers instead of enclosed terrariums.)

Back to Megan's house for building!

It was a good way to welcome in spring and to celebrate John Muir Day!

I need to go back to Megan's and retrieve my tiny terrarium but my big one is now happily at home in the kitchen with my very first terrarium (which is thriving since it was given to me by Marissa for my birthday in November) and my giant jade!

In other plant news, our first Community Garden clean-up day is tomorrow and I can't wait! It's hard work but it always feels so good to get back to it. I'm starting calendula and lime basil at home and I'm glad that I hadn't transplanted them yet since we're supposed to get a frost tonight! I hope it's the last.

Happy planting!
